# Links

## Short links for SMS campaigns

In this guide, we'll show you how to create short links in the [Links](https://app.miatel.com/links) and use them in your SMS campaigns.

A long URL eats up a lot of characters in an SMS. That can split the message into several segments and raise the cost of the campaign. A long address also looks clumsy and gets fewer taps. A short link saves room in the message, looks cleaner, and gets more clicks — and it lets you track how many people opened the link from a campaign. The Links section turns a long URL into a short link on your own domain, counts the clicks, and helps you control how long each link stays active.

### Overview of the Links page

You'll find the [Links](https://app.miatel.com/links) section in the side menu. The page shows a list of all your short links. Each link appears as a card with the following details:

| | |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Short link** | The address on your domain (in the example, `https://mia.tel/KEY`) that you put in the SMS. |
| **Destination URL** | The original long address the short link points to. |
| **Status** | Active or Disabled. |
| **Expiry** | The expiration date, or Indefinitely. |
| **Clicks** | How many times the link was opened. |
| **Tag** | A label for grouping links (for example, by campaign name). |
| **The ⋮ menu** | Actions for the link. |

### Connecting your own domain

Short links are built on a separate domain. Every account has its own domain (or several) for short links, so your links will look like `https://your-domain/key`.

To connect your own domain for short links, send a request to [**support@miatel.com**](mailto:support@miatel.com). Once it's set up, the domain shows up in the list when you create links.

### Creating a short link for a campaign

To create a short link, click the **Create** (C) button in the top-right corner of the [Links](https://app.miatel.com/links) page. The form opens with three modes — **One**, **Many**, and **Import**. Pick the one that fits your campaign.

#### One

Use this mode for a single link — for example, when the whole campaign points to the same address. Fill in the fields:

| | |
| --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Input a destination URL** | The full address the short link will point to. |
| **Domains** | Your short-link domain (`mia.tel` in the example). |
| **Key** | The part after the domain (`https://mia.tel/KEY`). Type your own readable key, or generate a random one with the button next to the field. |
| **Tags** | One or more labels. Pick an existing tag or type a new one, such as a campaign name. |
| **Expiry** | Set to Indefinitely by default. To give the link an expiration date, turn off the **Indefinitely** switch and pick a date in the calendar. |

When the fields are filled in, click **Create**.

#### Many

Use this mode to create several links at once — handy when each recipient in a campaign gets a different link. Paste your list of destination URLs (one per line) into the text box, choose a domain and tags, and set an expiry if you need one.

Instead of a manual key, this mode uses the **Key settings** button, where you set the rules for generating keys:

| | |
| ---------------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| **Symbol type** | Letters and numbers, Letters, or Numbers. |
| **Symbol count** | The length of the generated key. |

Click **Create** to generate short links for every address.

#### Import

Use this mode to load links from a file. Click the **Choose a file (xlsx, csv)** field and upload a table with your list of destination URLs. As in the Many mode, set the domain, tags, expiry, and **Key settings**. The file is checked first, so the button here is labelled **Validation**. This pairs well with the campaign file you prepare in [SMS campaigns](https://docs.miatel.com/docs/miatel-platform-guide/sms-campaigns).

### Adding a short link to an SMS

Once the link is ready, copy it with the copy button next to it and paste it into the message text:

| | |
| -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------- |
| **In** [**Quick send**](https://docs.miatel.com/docs/miatel-platform-guide/quick-send) | Into the Message content field. |
| **In** [**SMS campaigns**](https://docs.miatel.com/docs/miatel-platform-guide/sms-campaigns) | Into the message text column of the table you upload. |

Always paste the full link with `https://` so it stays tappable on every device. See [Link clickability](https://docs.miatel.com/docs/sms/link-clickability) for more on this.

### Managing links

Open the ⋮ menu to the right of a link to:

| | |
| -------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Deactivate** | Turn the link off for now, so it stops redirecting. |
| **Change the expiry date** | Click the date to set a new one. |
| **Statistics** | Open the clicks chart. |
| **Edit** | Change the destination URL, short link, tags, status, and expiry. |
| **Delete** | Remove the link. |

### Search, filtering, and sorting

When you have a lot of links, use the tools above the list:

| | |
| ------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Link search** (S) | A quick search through the list. |
| **Filter** (F) | Narrow the list by created date, expiration date, statuses, tags, and domains. |
| **Sorting** | By created date, unique clicks, or all clicks; the Direction button flips the order between ascending and descending. |

Tip: give every link from one campaign the same tag (the campaign name, for instance). Then you can filter them and read the campaign's results as a whole.

### Click statistics for a link

The number of clicks for each link shows right in the list. To see the trend, choose **Statistics** from the ⋮ menu. A chart opens for the last 60 days with two lines:

| | |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **All clicks** | The total number of opens. |
| **Unique clicks** | The number of unique opens, where repeat opens from the same person aren't counted twice. |

This is a simple way to read how an SMS campaign landed: how many recipients followed the link, and how often.

### Export

The **Export** button above the list saves your links and click stats to a file, in Excel or CSV format. Handy for campaign reporting and for working with the numbers outside the platform.

### Recommendations for SMS

1. Always use the full URL with `https://` — it keeps links tappable on iOS and Android (see [Link clickability](https://docs.miatel.com/docs/sms/link-clickability)).
2. Tag links by campaign name so they're easy to find, filter, and review.
3. Set an expiry that matches how long the promotion runs — the link stops working once it passes.
4. For bulk sends with a different link per recipient, use the Many or Import mode.
5. Test the short link on a real device before a big send.
